Justice Williams Aziegbemhin of a Benin High Court on Wednesday remanded six men in a correctional centre for allegedly killing a deaf and dumb man at a construction site.
The defendants are Joshua Edo, 50,
Ohio Kennedy, 42, Obayuwana Happy, 25, Osarumen Simon, 39, Osayi Adabonyin, 41, and Adagbonyin Flex, 43.
They are standing trial on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, murder, arson, and promoting communal war.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Azeigbemhin, however, remanded them at the Oko Correctional Centre.
He adjourned the case until March 25 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Mr B.A. Uwadiae, told the court that the defendants conspired and committed the offences on Feb. 13 and Feb. 28, at Obazagbon Community in Benin.
He alleged that the defendants killed a deaf and dumb man, one Efe Obeide, while attacking Obazagbon Community.
He said that Obeide was killed at a construction site where he went to work without knowing that there was a communal clash.
He alleged that the offences contravened Sections 64, 242 (1), Section 62 (1) (a) (b) (c) of the Criminal Law of Edo State, 2022. (NAN)
