A Jigawa-based group, Movement for the Creation of Kanya Babba Local Government Area, has presented a memorandum seeking for the creation of Kayan Babba LGA, at the ongoing public hearing on the Constitution Review.
The National Assembly Constitutional Review Committees are holding public hearing across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Its Chairman, Muhammad Ibrahimm, said this in a statement by Shehu Kanya-Babba, the spokesman of the group, on Monday in Dutse.
He said the group submitted its memorandum before the xenate committee for the creation of states and local governments sitting in Kano.
Ibrahim said the group was agitating for the creation of a new local government council out of the existing Babura LGA.
He said the group had met the creation for the creation of a local government in accordance with the constitutional provisions, and supported by the people in the Kanya Constituency.
Ibrahim, who is also the District Head of Kanya Babba, said that creation of the new council would fasttrack social and economic development in the area.
The statement also quoted Sen. Barau Jibrin, Chairman of the committee, as expressing satisfaction with commitment of the people of the to present their memorandum before it.
He assured of the committee’s determination to be fair and just in discharging its assignment.
The event was attended by Sen. Babangida Husaini (APC – Jigawa North-West), Ibrahim Hashimu (APC – Kanya State Constituency), Hamisu Muhammad, Chairman, Babura LGC, and Usman Haladu, Special Advisor to Gov. Umar Namadi on Due process and Project Monitoring.
Others were community leaders, representatives of political and development societies. (NAN)
