Commuters plying the Abuja- Keffi expressway have called on the Federal Government to address the worsening gridlock at Mararaba section of the road caused by the bad road on the ever busy road.
In interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, the commuters attributed the gridlock to the potholes and deplorable state of the road due to the rainy season.
A public servant resident in Mararaba, James Ogedengbe, said he left home as early as 6 am but could not get to his office at Wuse 2, until 9 am due to the traffic.
“This is tiring and many have lost their jobs due to lateness to work and we all know that getting a job on this present time is very difficult,” Ogedengbe lamented.
He said due to the traffic many commuters who work in the FCT now take motorbike to Kugbo and AYA ends of the road before continuing with commercial vehicle.
He called on the Federal Government to intervene as a matter of urgency.
‘The government can help the situation by repairing the damaged roads since expansions seem impossible,’ he added.
Also speaking, a Nyanya resident, Ms Happiness Emmanuel, said one of the major causes of the gridlock is the recklessness of some drivers and commercial motorcycle riders who usually park on the major roads to pick up passengers.
She urged relevant authorities to take measures toensure free flow of traffic, by making sure that drivers and traffic offender obeyed the rules.
‘The road safety officers need to do something about it, they need to educate drivers and `okada `riders to stop illegal parking,’ she said. (NAN)
