The Kano State Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning says it will publish names of defaulters in its ongoing recertification of Certificates of Occupancy of lands in the state.

The state Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Alhaji AbdulJabbar Garko, said this while addressing a World Press Conference in Kano on Tuesday.

He said that aside the national dailies, defaulters’ names would be published

at Kano State Library, Audu Bako Secretariat, Gidan Murtala and Kano State High Court, for notice and necessary action.

“I wish to inform you that names of defaulters will be published in the national dailies from tomorrow, for their notice and necessary action.

“The names shall be published in the newspapers and selected government outlets, which shall include, the Kano State Library, Audu Bako Secretariat, Gidan Murtala and the Kano State High Court amongst other places.

“These individuals are enjoined to come forward and take necessary actions to avoid revocation of their land titles,” Garko said.

He announced the extension of the recertification period by 60 days to enable land title owners who have not recertified to do so.

“In spite of several sensitisation of the public as well as extension of time limit, it is quite unfortunate that many are lackadaisical and aloof to all forms of entreaties to safeguard their land assets by recertifying them.

“Unfortunately, this attitude can lead to complete loss of their land assets through revocation under Section 28(5) of the Land Use Act, 1978.

“Based on other considerations, the government wishes to announce an extension of the recertification period to another 60 days,” he said.

The commissioner also said that the ministry had successfully enumerated 241,025 land properties within Nassarawa and Fagge Local Government Areas.

He said they had been enumerating properties across Tarauni, Dala, Kano Municipal and Gwale Local Government Areas. (NAN)
