A group, The Unifiers Movement (TUM), has commended political leaders for setting aside differences to form a united opposition and renew Nigeria’s democratic hopes.

Dr Dayo Kayode, Convener and National Chairman of TUM, stated this on Monday in Lagos, noting the group had observed disarray within opposition parties over the past 10 months.

According to Kayode, the creation of the National Opposition Coalition offers hope of rescuing Nigeria’s democracy and improving the lives of ordinary citizens.

“We commend opposition leaders who, through divine wisdom and free will, recognised the grave threat facing our hard-won democracy and acted promptly,” Kayode said.

He noted that these leaders set aside political rivalries and ambitions to form a unified front, leading to the birth of the National Opposition Coalition.

“At The Unifiers Movement, we salute your boldness and patriotism. Special mention goes to Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Nasir El-Rufai, and others,” Kayode stated.

He added that their efforts had birthed the coalition and led to its adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.

“Be assured that you have the unwavering support and loyalty of our widespread membership across Nigeria and the diaspora,” he said.

Kayode described the earlier disunity among opposition parties as a threat to Nigeria’s democratic values, which could damage the nation’s fragile democracy.

He announced TUM’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation in order to strengthen democratic structures and participation.

According to him, TUM is people-driven and focused on transforming Nigeria’s political narrative and civic engagement.

He said the group aimed to mobilise Nigerians to free themselves from the political and economic control of entrenched elites.

“Our ideology inspires Nigerians to embrace a future rooted in unity, justice, equity, and freedom for all.

“We fully support the National Opposition Coalition and, by extension, the revitalised ADC as the chosen political vehicle.

“There’s no doubt that Nigeria can still become the admired nation of our dreams,” Kayode said.

Kayode stated that TUM, with 1.5 million members, aimed to reach 10 million by December 2025 and 20 million by mid-2026.

He said mobilisation efforts would combine advanced IT strategies with physical outreach across the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Atiku Abubakar’s coalition and some disenchanted APC members recently adopted the ADC to challenge President Tinubu in 2027.

Following the announcement, several opposition figures, especially from the PDP and LP, have declared support for the ADC platform. (NAN)
