A prominent Nigerian civil group, the Democratic Front (TDF), has praised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to establish a new headquarters for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing it as a bold move towards solidifying democratic governance in the country.
In a joint statement released in Abuja on Monday, the TDF’s Chairman, Malam Danjuma Muhammad, and Secretary, Chief Wale Adedayo, commended Tinubu’s administration for what they called a visionary step to reinforce Nigeria’s electoral infrastructure and democratic institutions.
“This new INEC complex sends a strong message that democracy is here to stay,” the group said. “President Tinubu has shown unwavering commitment to democratic advancement.”
The statement also reflected on Tinubu’s personal history of facing political persecution under military rule, noting his continued advocacy for democracy. The TDF added that the President’s decision to honour Nigeria’s democratic heroes—while excluding himself from recognition—exemplified humility and statesmanship.
Highlighting improvements in the electoral process under Tinubu’s leadership, the TDF credited timely funding and technical support for INEC as factors behind recent credible elections in Imo, Edo, and Ondo States. According to the group, these developments pave the way for a more transparent and reliable general election in 2027.
