A Borno-based organisation, Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, has trained victims of insurgency to human rights, to fasttrack peace building, recovery and reconciliation.
The two-day training exercise is being supported by the Foriegn Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The Project Facilitator, Muhammad Abdullahi, said this at the closing session of the exercise on Wednesday in Maiduguri.
He said the exercise was designed to expose the participants to the concept of human rights, adding that, “the training is on understanding human rights in the context of peace building.
“Participants include victims, victims’ relations and survivours of insurgency”.
Abdullahi said the participants, who experienced various form of human right violations were expected to play vital role in advocacy and seek redress in their communities.
“We expect participants who are now empowered on human rights to help others, particularly in areas of advocacy at this critical period of recovery,” he said.
One of the participants, Bintu Mohammed, said that she learnt a lot about human rights, and pledged to step down the message to members of her community.
“I’m happy to know the relevant agencies and organisations where to report human right violations”. (NAN)
