By Hon Phillip Agbese
Our heart is shattered, our soul is torn apart, and our spirit is grieving. The senseless killings that have ravaged our beloved Benue State, particularly the recent attack on Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area, have left us speechless and begging God to intervene.
This is a dark chapter in our nation’s history, and I fear for our children’s future if we don’t act now to stop the repeated attacks on our innocent people by suspected Fulani herdsmen. “When the righteous cry out, the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.” (Psalm 34:17) We cry out to God, pleading to end this bloodshed and violence.
We extend our support to the people of Otukpo, Agatu, Apa, and other parts of Idomaland who are under attack. We also stand in solidarity with the people of Gwer-East, Gwer-West, Guma, and Makurdi Federal Constituency, which are facing similar challenges.
We call upon the good people of Benue State and Nigeria to join us in a three-day prayer and fasting vigil, starting immediately, to seek God’s intervention and protection. May our collective prayers bring comfort to the victims’ families and peace to our troubled land.
To those responsible for these atrocities, we say: the wrath of God shall be upon you. We urge the authorities to take swift and decisive action to apprehend the perpetrators and bring an end to these mindless killings. May God bless Benue State and Nigeria. Amen.
