The Bauchi State government has reiterated its commitment to justice and transparency in financial management at the local governments level.
State commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Isah Babayo Tilde made the statement during a two-day sensitisation workshop for local government financial managers held in Bauchi.
He emphasised the benefits of proper financial management to citizens, especially at the grassroots.
Represented by the Senior Special Assistant on Local Government, Comrade Hashimu Muhammad Gital, the commissioner explained that the workshop would help rebuild synergy between the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and local government financial managers, ensuring proper utilisation of public funds and promoting financial accountability at the grassroots.
“We are committed to rebuilding synergy between the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and local government financial managers, ensuring proper utilisation of public funds and promoting financial accountability at the grassroots,” he said.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barrister Saratu Jibrin, represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Isyaka Tijjani Bello, described budgeting and planning as the backbone of sound economic management and urged participants to maximise the knowledge gained to improve their work.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Jibrin Yusuf, noted the strong collaboration between his ministry and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, describing the workshop as timely given the current global economic challenges.
“This workshop is timely, given the current global economic challenges,” he pointed out.
The Acting Director of Budget and Economic Planning at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hajia Aishatu Sa’idu Abubakar, said the workshop was organised to equip participants with updated knowledge in budgeting, research, statistics, and planning, expressing hope that the insights gained would help achieve the goals of effective financial management in the state.
The workshop, attended by Local Government Directors of Budget, Planning, Research and Statistics, Deputy Directors, and Chief Accountants, aimed to enhance financial accountability and effective economic planning at the local level.
