No fewer than 21 villages in Kagara and San-Isa wards of Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State have come under deadly attacks by armed bandits, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and the abduction of several others.
Eyewitnesses and local sources confirmed that the coordinated raids, which began on Saturday evening, continued into Sunday morning, with the assailants operating unchallenged across multiple communities.
A resident of Kagara, Abubakar Sani, told The Cabal that he lost two of his brothers during the assault on their village.
“The bandits entered our village around 6:30 p.m. in large numbers, all heavily armed. They shot sporadically, killing people and abducting many others, including women and children,” Sani recounted.
“They carted away our livestock and personal belongings and moved deep into the forest.”
Another survivor, Ahmed Dan-Isa, speaking to The Cabal by phone, said the attacks claimed at least nine lives across other villages under the San-Isa and Kagara wards.
“This was a calculated series of attacks across several villages,” Dan-Isa said. “There was no sign of security intervention. The gunmen operated freely, instilling fear and destruction wherever they went.”
Dan-Isa appealed to both the Zamfara State Government and the Federal Government to intervene swiftly and rescue the residents of Kaura-Namoda from what he described as a “worsening humanitarian crisis.”
Despite multiple attempts, efforts to contact the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful, as his phone remained switched off at the time of filing this report.
The latest attacks are part of a disturbing pattern of insecurity in Zamfara State, where armed groups continue to target rural communities, displacing thousands and undermining local livelihoods.
