The ruling All Progressive Congress APC Jigawa state has won all 27 chairmanships and 281 out of 287 councillorships contested by 11 political parties last Saturday, October 5th, during the local government council election held in the state.
APGA won one councillor position in the Margadu ward of the Guri local government. In contrast, the Accord Party won four councilorships, including Ajaura ward in Taura Local Government, Kanwa ward in Jahun Local Government, Maiaduwa ward in Gagarawa Local Government, and Guntusu ward in Gwaiwa Local Government.
The election results were declared at the local government headquarters and political ward coalition centres in each state’s 27 local government areas.
The results obtained from the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISEC) show that the winner of the councillorship of Dubantu ward in Hadejia local government was not declared due to disagreement over the results coalition and the destruction of some ballot boxes.
However, the Executive Chairman of JISEC, Hon Auwalu Muhammad Harbo, has already presented a certificate of return to all the winners of the 27 local government chairman seats.
Commenting on the election outcome, the Chairman of Jigawa State All Progressive Congress APC, Hon Aminu Sani Gumel, congratulated his party members on their victory.
“Going by the exemplary leadership of His Excellency Governor Malam Umar Namadi and how it is positively impacting the life of Jigawa citizens, we have 100 per cent assurance of winning all the seats.”
“Jigawa people have confidence in our party and our Leader, Governor Namadi, and his 12-point agenda designed to make Jigawa Great. Therefore, they cannot make the mistake of voting for a party that lacks a manifesto or Clare blueprint for the development of Jigawa state,” Hon Gumel stated.
However, all efforts to reach the state chairmen of the People Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigerian People’s Party for comment on the election outcome proved abortive. Their phone numbers were not working, and they also did not respond to text messages as of the time this story was filed.
The election was conducted peacefully, and the 27 local government chairmanship winners will be sworn in on Monday, October 7th, 2024.
