Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced a change in venue for its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, 24 July.
In a brief statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the meeting will now take place at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, rather than the party’s national secretariat in Wuse II, Abuja, as earlier planned.
Morka cited “logistics reasons” for the change.
The meeting is expected to address key party matters, most notably the nomination and ratification of a new national chairman, following the resignation of former chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, on 27 June.
Ganduje, who reportedly stepped down due to health-related concerns, was succeeded in an acting capacity by Abubakar Dalori, the party’s deputy national chairman (North).
Sources say Thursday’s meeting could mark a turning point in the APC’s internal reorganisation efforts ahead of upcoming political cycles.
