“Our interaction today is to highlight some of the notable breakthroughs recorded by the Anambra state police command from January 2024 to date.
“These feats include incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, child trafficking, public disturbances, attacks on unsuspecting members of the public, security personnel, government infrastructures and other sundry offences.
“Over 300 suspects were arrested for various crimes and we have secured over 30 convictions and there are still ongoing trials. We rescued 14 kidnapped victims unhurt.
“We have also recovered over 100 different brands of arms which include AK47, pump action guns, locally made pistols, and others,” he said.
Itam said that the command equally recovered 2,937 ammunition of various types and over 43 unexpected improvised devices and about 40 stolen vehicles within the period under review.
According to him, we have also recovered different brands of motorcycles, amongst other exhibits in ongoing investigations.
“Efforts at reducing crime and criminality are yielding positive results and you will agree with me that we are changing the narrative”.
He explained that some of the suspects involved in various disheartening and unfortunate incidents as well as unprovoked attacks on security operatives and unsuspecting members of the public witnessed in 2024 were eliminated during shootouts with security operatives.
The CP noted that other suspects were arrested in the cause of separate operations by the Police and Joint Security Forces.
Also speaking, Mrs Chinelo Onwuasoanya, one of the suspects involved in alleged child trafficking, who hails from Obowu in Imo told newsmen that each child sold for N1.2 million.
Onwuasoanya also said that they picked some of their victims from Churches using a six year old boy to lure some of them.
