Prominent politicians in Dunukofia Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra say they have resolved to work for the victory of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo in the 2025 Governorship Election in the state.
The people took the resolution at the inauguration of the local government and ward executive committees of “Dunukofia-4-Soludo Pilot”, a grassroots support group at the Dunukofia Council Secretariat on Monday.
In a speech, Mr Emeka Okonkwo, the Convener of the group, said the group was founded to secure a comprehensive victory for Soludo in the area.
Okonkwo, who is the Managing Director, Anambra Road Transport Authority, said the governor had delivered the dividend of democracy, hence deserved a second term.
“The major purpose of this event is to inaugurate this group, which is very localised and our objective is to ensure that Soludo wins his second term election.
“With over 500-km of roads across the state, Soludo has been outstanding and we have no choice but to send him back to the Government House,” he said.
Also, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr Cheta Nwegwu, said that Soludo has favoured Dunukofia LGA by way of road construction.
Nwegwu said the governor also appointed and recruited some indigenes of Dunukofia into his cabinet, ministries, departments, agencies and the state civil service.
He said that Dunukofia was setting the pace by being the first to set up a support group that was locally formed out of genuine love for the governor and his outstanding performance.
“We understand that politics is local and this is the only way we can return the governor for second term.
“We all shall be at our polling units on the election day.
“This is why Dunukofia-4-Soludo has thrown its weight behind the actualisation of the second term of the governor, who has favoured us more than other 20 LGAs in Anambra,” he said.
The Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA),
Chief Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, said the party acknowledged the need for collaboration with support groups to achieve victory in the 2025 governorship election.
Obi-Okoye said that APGA was working to ensure that it had a structure in all the kindreds across the state to ensure sustained contact with the grassroots.
Inaugurating the group, the Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, said that Soludo’s administration had brought development to the state more than all the previous administrations.
Ibezim urged residents to continue to support the governor.
“I commend Dunukofia people for attesting to the good work of Soludo.
“We will continue to deliver on our campaign promises.
“Nobody forced Soludo to conduct the local government election.
“It is part of his promises and he is doing it within three years of his administration,” Ibezim said. (NAN)
