The Ondo State chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has arrested seven suspects linked to various crimes across the state and recovered stolen goods valued at N300 million.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday in Akure by the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye.

Adeleye said the arrests and recoveries were part of the corps’ ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities across the state.

Among those apprehended were members of a theft syndicate involved in the illegal transportation of electronics — including phones and gadgets — allegedly stolen in Lagos and moved to Ondo State via the Ojota Motor Park.

“One of the suspects boarded the same vehicle transporting the stolen items and repackaged the electronics into an empty carton mid-journey,” Adeleye explained. “The deception was uncovered during a stop to refuel the vehicle, which led to a deeper investigation and eventual recovery of the goods.”

According to him, the recovered items belong to a licensed electronics dealer in Ondo State and will be returned to the rightful owner following the conclusion of court proceedings and proper documentation.

The Amotekun commander also revealed that other suspects were connected to a recent kidnapping along Itagbolu Road in Akure North Local Government Area. Two victims were abducted but were rescued by Amotekun operatives after a 96-hour search operation in the forest, six days prior to the press release.

“The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N50 million, which was never paid,” Adeleye said. “We continue to advise the public against paying ransoms, and we are proud to report that most of the kidnapping cases handled in the past two months have been resolved without any payments being made.”

He reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly.
