The first son of Sokoto State, Aliyu Ahmed Aliyu has appealed for rational inclusivity of women in decision making, adding however that, capacity and merit should be the yardstick.
Aliyu, who spoke shortly after the Nigerian Youth Parliament, Sokoto State Chapter stakeholders Townhall Meeting at Grand New Shukura Hotel in Sokoto, also appealed to people to embrace skills and entrepreneurship.
While urging youths to take responsibility for societal transformation, Aliyu appreciated the recent shift in focus from depency mindest on government to self reliance through entrepreneurship.
“Today, many youths are leaveraging on the wider reach of social media through platforms like, WhatsApp, Tik-tok and lots more to market their small businesses, such as samosas, peanuts and the rest.
“And this is an inspiring welcome development’, because it’s a positive mindset of self-reliance and independence which is something we’ve never witnessed before.
While encouraging youths to embrace this culture and leverage on the opportunities that the government are providing for entrepreneurs for progress, Aliyu Ahmed concluded with an appeal to youths to shun all forms of social vices and be self disciplined.
Earlier, in her opening remarks, Hon. Sa’adatu Sani Shagari, the Member representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, of the youth Parliament, encouraged youths and I’m particular women to actively participation in governance.
Hon. Sa’adatu Shagari who affirmed that the stakeholders townhall meeting was geared towards promoting unity and peace as well as encouraging youths to embrace the culture of stepping forwards for governance.
“This gathering is more than an event; it is a call to action, a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and shared responsibility,” she declared.
“The strength of any society lies not in its silence, but in the inclusion of diverse voices, especially those of the youth.”
In his closing remarks, Hon. Ra’is Umar, Member representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, commended governor Ahmed Aliyu for his commitment to youth empowerment and acknowledged the tireless efforts of all the relevant ministries towards youths emancipation.
The townhall meeting with the theme, “Repositioning Sokoto Youth to Foster Unity and Peace for Democratic Development in tTue State,” had in attendance critical stakeholdersnsucj as student leaders, women representatives, security agencies, media personalities and the host of others.
