The Badagry General Hospital (BGH) on Wednesday organised free medical check for residents, to commemorate the 88th birthday anniversary of Aholu Menu Toyi 1, the Traditional Ruler (Akran) of Badagry.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the free medical check was carried out at the Akran’s palace, in collaboration with the Ogu Elites Health Professionals.
The Ogu Elites Health Professionals are Egun indigenes working in Badagry General Hospital.
Dr Olatunde Bakare, the Medical Director, General Hospital, Badagry,
said that the free service was to provide opportunity for some residents who could not afford to come to the hospital.
“We have come to the Akran’s Palace this morning to give free medical services to some residents in celebration of our traditional ruler who has just clocked 88 years.
“This is to appreciate the traditional ruler, who has brought peace to the people of Badagry.
“We are here to attend to people who have ailments such as malaria parasite, typhoid, diabetes and others.
“We will test them and give them drugs and any case that is beyond what we can tackle here, we will direct to the hospital where they will be treated,” Bakare said.
He urged the residents to embrace the Lagos State Health Scheme (Ilera-Eko), saying that the scheme would enable them access health services anywhere in Lagos with a token of N15,000 in a year.
Chief Adeoye Sotin, the Baale of Tohan, in Badagry, commended the management of the hospital for bringing free health services to the residents.
He said: “This is a collective responsibility, everyone is here on this occasion and we are doing our best to felicitate the traditional ruler, and the hospital management deemed it fit to honour him too.
“God has preserved the life of the Kabiyesi and given him good health, and the hospital wants his subjects to be in good health too,”
“Health is wealth, so anyone who is alive and well needs to keep fit,” the Baale said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Chief Imam of Badagry Division were also in the palace to pray and celebrate with the traditional ruler. (NAN)
