The Kaduna State Chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a strong warning to former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, over what it described as calculated attempts to infiltrate and destabilise the party in the state.
The party’s leadership accused El-Rufai of orchestrating subversive alliances and engaging in illegitimate political manoeuvres, allegedly aimed at hijacking the party’s structure—despite not being a registered member at the ward level, a constitutional requirement for valid membership.
Speaking on behalf of the state leadership at a press conference in Kaduna on Monday, Ahmed Tijjani Mustapha cautioned El-Rufai against actions that could undermine the unity and democratic integrity of the ADC.
“Let it be clearly understood that the Kaduna State Chapter of the ADC will not be a willing tool in the hands of any individual, nor will we be beholden to interests that seek to undermine our collective vision,” Mustapha declared.
He alleged that El-Rufai, in concert with former Social Democratic Party (SDP) allies and other political actors, had been working behind the scenes to create a faction within the ADC, with the intention of using it as a personal political platform ahead of future elections.
“This is not only unacceptable, but a direct threat to the unity, discipline, and democratic values that define the ADC,” he said.
Party Reaffirms Loyalty and Unity
While reiterating that the ADC remains open to all Nigerians who genuinely share its values, Mustapha stressed that the party will not tolerate the kind of “destructive tendencies” he said had plagued Nigeria’s older political parties.
He reaffirmed the Kaduna ADC’s unwavering loyalty to its founding principles and expressed full support for the party’s new National Chairman, Senator David Mark, describing the leadership as progressive and people-centred.
“We call on Nasir El-Rufai to respect the democratic ideals of our party, allow due process to prevail, and cease all disruptive activities,” Mustapha warned.
He further noted that the ADC in Kaduna remains focused on mobilising the electorate towards the party’s vision of a just, democratic, and prosperous Nigeria, offering a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
