The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called for more humanitarian aid to support victims of floods in Maiduguri, Borno.
Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, Chairman, ACF Board of Trustees, stated this at a news conference on Thursday in Maiduguri.
He stressed the need for wealthy individuals, agencies and development organisations to scale up relief supplies and other interventions, to assuage the sufferings of persons affected by the disaster.
“We deeply appreciate the generous contributions from kind-hearted individuals and groups, but given the scale of the devastation, it is clear that more support is urgently needed to address the overwhelming challenges these communities face,” he said.
Dahaltu said they were in Maiduguri to sympathise with government and people of the state over the disaster, which displaced thousands households, ravaged homes, farmlands and infrastructure.
He said the team would also conduct needs assessment in the affected areas to ensure delivery of relief items to the displaced communities.
The Chairman also urged government at all levels and relevant agencies to adopt proactive preventive and disaster risk management measures to avert future occurrences.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dalhatu accompanied by other members of the board visited Gov. Babagana Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Garbai Elkanemi and some of the flood ravaged communities. (NAN)
