Sen. Onyekachi Nwebonyi (APC—Ebonyi North) has commenced the construction of 1.5 km construction Obama—Obegu—Azuiyiokwu Inyimegu road in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.
Nwebonyi, the Senate Deputy Whip, said during the ceremony on Tuesday said the road was part of the 20kilometres of road network he had attracted as a senator over year ago.
He noted that he also attracted the over 365km Ebonyi-Benue link road which has been approved by President Bola Tinubu as part of the Renewed Hope Legacy Coastal Road Project.
“This road which transverses the popular United Brothers Club headquarters, Dandilas, Mechanic site and Inyimegu village will be constructed on rigid concrete pavement of six inches.
“We would deploy Chinese technology for its construction to ensure smoothness and durability,” he said.
The senator said he was striving towards fulfilling his campaign promises with the belief that leadership is a social contract.
“I came to power to serve humanity and set a precedence that would become a reference point on exiting this seat.
“This made me visit China to understudy its concrete road technology.
“I discovered that it is better to use machine instead of manual laying of concrete as this project is being handled by Clin Construction Company Nigeria,” he said.
Nwebonyi said that the road will be a litmus test for concrete road technology in Nigeria as street lights would be installed as work progresses on it.
“We would also commence another 1.5km road to link Abakaliki Rice Mill and its environs.
“I am complementing Gov. Francis Nwifuru’s infrastructural strides at the grassroots and urge the people to continue supporting his administration.
“We deeply thank President Bola Tinubu for all these projects and providing fertilisers and farm inputs among others, to Ebonyi farmers,” he said.
Chief Okechukwu Nwangwuta, the Head of Obama Village, Obeagu—Azuiyiokwu, commended the senator for the project noting that it would ease the transportation challenges confronting the people.
The APC Ebonyi North Senatorial District chairman, Chief John Nwankata, commended Nwifuru for creating the enabling environment upon which leaders such Nwebonyi thrive in leadership. (NAN)
