The Police have arrested 14 suspects alleged to be involved in the vandalism of 132 KV Transmission Tower Line along the Ahoada-Mbiama and igbogene axis in Rivers and Bayelsa.
The suspects, who have been on the wanted list of the zone for the past few months, were arrested based on intelligence reports in Rivers.
This was contained in a statement on signed by Gunn Emonena, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 16 headquarters in Yenagoa.
Emonena said the suspects were arrested following a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16 headquarters, Yenagoa by the Honourable Commissioner for Power, Kharin Komuko on behalf of the Bayelsa Government.
According to the statement, the suspects, who have been on the wanted list of the zone for the past few months, were arrested based on credible intelligence in Rivers State.
“In the course of diligent and painstaking investigation, 35mm floor core armoured cable, 70mm floor core armoured cable , 50mm SLPE Cables, electrical pot insulator were recovered from the suspects.
“Also recovered are wheel spanners, cutting blades, long bots, eleven KV poles, recline cables, earth cables, copper from the suspects as exhibits,” it reads.
Emonena urged residents to take all necessary steps in protecting the properties within the vicinity.
The Zone reaffirmed its unwavering commitment in ensuring the safety and security of lives and properties within the Zone.
It urged the residents to offer their maximum cooperation and support in order to have a crime free society. (NAN)
