The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) has announced Oct. 16 to Oct. 19 as the Nigerian Satellite Week.

Aisha Bantam, Head, Corporate affairs, NIGCOMSAT, made the announcement in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Bantam said that satellite technology played a crucial role in bridging the digital divide as it enhanced communication and fostered economic opportunities.

According to her, the the theme of the event is “Empowering Nigeria’s Digital Future: Innovations in Satellite Technology and Entrepreneurship.”

Bantam said that the week-long event was aimed at highlighting the importance of satellite technology in driving innovation, connectivity and economic growth in Nigeria and across Africa.

“The Nigerian Satellite Week will serve as a platform for stakeholders, industry leaders, and innovators to come together, share insights and explore the future of satellite technology in various sectors.

”These sectors include education, healthcare, agriculture and telecommunications.

“The Nigerian Satellite Week 2024 will feature series of engaging activities designed to foster collaboration and showcase advancements in the satellite industry.’’

The head of corporate affairs disclosed that the week would commence with a Press Day–an official announcement of events and insights into the significance of satellite technology in Nigeria.

She said there would also be a stakeholders’ forum where industry leaders, government officials and academic experts would discuss the current state and future prospects of satellite technology in the country.

“Participants will explore collaborative opportunities and share best practices to enhance the satellite ecosystem in the region.

“NIGCOMSAT will also showcase the innovative solutions developed by the 20 space and satellite-based startups enrolled in its Accelerator Programme.

“This demo will highlight the creativity and potential of emerging entrepreneurs in the satellite industry, providing them with a platform to present their groundbreaking ideas to potential investors and partners,” she said.

She said that Mrs Jane Egerton-Idehen, Managing Director, NIGCOMSAT Ltd., was enthusiastic about the event and its potential to advance Nigeria’s position in the global satellite market.(NAN)
