The Chairperson, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, Lagos State Chapter, Dr Adeola Elike, has called for continuous effective reportage to complement efforts of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in reducing crashes on the roads.
Ekine made the call when she led some of her members to the Lagos State Command of FRSC in Lagos on Wednesday.
She said that NAWOJ was a powerful platform for advocating gender equality, promoting responsible journalism, and driving societal development.
Ekine said that the association was commited to aligning with FRSC’s mission to ensuring safer roads and saved lives across the nation.
She said that collaborating with FRSC would amplify shared objectives for the betterment of the society.
“Road safety is a pressing issue that affects every family, community, and individual in Nigeria.
“As journalists, we are well-positioned to play a critical role in educating the public, spreading awareness, and promoting safe driving practices through responsible media coverage.
“Through our platforms, we intend to support the FRSC’s efforts to reduce road accidents, promote compliance with traffic regulations, and enhance road safety consciousness in Lagos State.
“We recognise the dedication of the Sector Command, especially in ensuring safety on Lagos roads despite the high traffic volume and complex road networks,”Ekine said.
The NAWOJ Lagos chairperson congratulated Davou on behalf of her members for his career and successful contributions as he was steping into retirement.
She acknowledged the tireless work of the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line daily to protect commuters and pedestrians.
In his response, the Lagos State Commander, Patrick Davou, appreciated the visit of NAWOJ, adding that they had inspired his career.
According to him, over the years, the Nigerian Government has been loosing most of the citizenry to road crashes which led to the establishment of the service.
He said that FRSC was saddled with the responsibility of rescuing road traffic victims.
“In most of our activities the media has been supportive in ensuring that our messages spread across the country to ensure more awareness of our activities to the motoring public.
“With this collaboration with NAWOJ, we are going to have more enlightenment programmes and more people will be aware of our ember messages.
“Lagos is a complex area with a unique mode of transportation. Most time when there is accident at Kara bridge all the areas in Lagos will be affected,” he said.
He said that during raining seasons, traffic usually built up in most part of the city.
“Our officers and other agencies are in the rain controlling the traffic,”Davou said.

He appreciated the FRSC management for giving him the opportunity to head the Lagos command before his retirement,(NAN).
