The Federal Polythechnic, Ede, Osun, has appealed to the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal, to assist the institution in its fight against cultism.

Prof. Taiwo Olaiya, the Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, made the appeal when he led other council members to the palace of the traditional ruler in Ede on Wednesday.

Olaiya said that the traditional ruler should assist the school by ensuring that landlords did not rent their apartment to any students, suspected to be cult member.

He said while the school management would continue to use the internal mechanism to minimise cult related activities in the school, the traditional ruler should assist by not allowing any cult members to have any place of abode in the town.

“We heard that some cult members are still lurking around and that is why we are asking Kabieesi to assist us to talk to these young boys, who are always think that going to the underworld is the best.

“Being a member of the cult will not help them but rather what they need to do is acquire more skills and continue strive for the best.

“And that is why we appeal to Kabieesi to assist by telling the landlords to report any students who is a cult members to the appropriate authorities,” he said.

Olaiya said that part of the visit was to familiarise the council members with the traditional ruler.

“We are here to familiarise ourselves with the traditional ruler and to tell the community to know that we will improve on our social responsibilities.

“Kabieesi is our father and we need to receive his royal blessings to succeed in our work and to also let the community know that they will feel the impact of the institution the more,” he said.

In his response, Oba Lawal described the Polytechnic as the baby of community, which would continue to enjoy the support of every members of the town.

The traditional ruler promised to continue to support the institution in ensuring that cultism was reduced to the barest minimum in the school.

Oba said that he would continue to talk to landlords in the town to always report any students who is suspected to be a cult member.

“We will continue to talk to them and anyone who refused to learn or change we be asked to leave,” he said.

He urged the council members to leave a positive legacy, which would rank the institution as one of the best in the country.

The traditional ruler charged the management of the institution to ensure that the community felt its impact in the area of its social responsibilities.
