Gov. Alex Otti of Abia has re-assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) that his administration would do everything within its powers to ensure their welfare and safety.
He gave the assurance on Tuesday, at the closing ceremony for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp,Umunna, Bende Local Government Area.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kanu, commended the corps members for their discipline, hard work and dedication.
He urged them to carry on with those national core values of patriotism, religious tolerance, discipline, integrity, dignity of labour and self reliance instilled in them during the orientation course.
Otti also informed that they were not just serving the nation in Abia, but were also ambassadors of the state by virtue of their posting.
Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Gladys Adama, urged the corps members to accept their postings in good fate and settle down quickly at their places of primary assignments.
She charged them to contribute their quota to the development of their host communities, the state and the society at large.
The coordinator advised them not to dismiss with a wave of hand all they learnt in camp under the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
“This programme was introduced to assist you in job creation, income generation and poverty reduction in the society,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 2,000 corps members, consisting 887 males and 1,113 females, participated in the 21-day orientation course.(NAN)
