The Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, on Tuesday, inaugurated a legislative and administrative building.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the building consists of a 54-seat chamber, offices for five councillors, the clerk and three heads of departments.

It has 15 modern toilets and is equipped with 17 air conditioners.

At the event, Rep. Babajimi Benson representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, said the edifice had become necessary to facilitate legislative activities of the council.

Benson, the Chairman House of Representatives Committe on Defence, was the special guest of honour at the ceremony.

He urged the legislative arm of the LCDA to work in synergy with the executive arm and to expedite action in enacting laws that would bring development to the council area.

Mr Cornelius Ojelabi, the Chairman of All Progressive Congress in Lagos State, praised the council for the achievement.

He said that the project would enhance governance.

“The creation of LCDAs has allowed for more direct engagement with the people,” he said.

Earlier, Mr Olusesan Daini, the Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, said that the building was a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for governance and service delivery.

“We have achieved another milestone, fullfilling a key promise to our people.

“I am proud to say that this project was awarded for completion within 12 months, but through commitment and hard work, we have delivered it in six months.

“As we round off our administration, this project stands as one of our achievements,” he said.

Daini listed other achievements of his administration to include construction of primary schools, provision of writing materials to 11,840 pupils, strengthening security, and rehabilitation of roads.

He added that his administration constructed a primary healthcare centre at Oluodo and fully equipped it.

He promised that the administration would build another primary healthcare cente before the end of 2024 and provide it with equipment worth N120 million.

The Traditional Ruler of Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Oba Abdulsemiu Kasali, lauded the council for the project, and urged the council to execute more developmental projects before the expiration of its tenure.

Mr Kamal Bayewu, Chairman of Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, also lauded the initiative.

He said that the building showed that the administration was focused on development and financial management. (NAN)
