Groups known as Kogi Conscience Liberation Movement (KCLM) in collaboration with Kogi Concerned Citizens Forums has called on the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), to investigate all local Government Chairmen as the former Governor Yahaya Bello cannot be alone in this cycle of corruption.
The group made this known on a peaceful march on the state of corruption in Kogi State to the EFCC in Abuja.
According to the group led by Comrade Peter Onuma and Comrade Okpanachi Jacob respectively, it states in part that, “Consequent upon the ongoing Corruption Case against the former Governor of Kogi State and other accomplices it is imperative that we draw the attention of the economic and financial crime commission to the setbacks as Kogi Citizens are suffering economic setback been a spillover from the effect of this corrupt practices.
“The state income base is the civil service yet this same sector have been subjected and subjugated to untold hardship that emanates from issues bothering on percentage salary where workers receive less than half of his/her monthly salaries and wages thus reducing the velocity of cash in the society.
To worsen the situation it is important to also recall that the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello conducted an endless screening exercise that led to loss of jobs, lives and many thrown into untold hardship within Kogi State.
“The cycle of corruption did not just revolve around the former Governor alone but it became a system that cannot exonerate the Local Government Chairmen and other key appointees that have to do with financial management in the state within his 8 years tenure. It is in the light of this that we commend the EFCC on the ongoing case of N80 billion Nigeria that is undergoing investigation alongside the charges linked to the family members on the case of 10 billion, but we in this light wish to assure the agency of our consent and support.
“Our Demands that a proper investigate into the expenditure of the state from 2016 to January 27th 2024 so as to help put into proper perspective issues of corruption in Kogi State, that based on the official mandate of EFCC; we as a group supports the ongoing investigation by the agency that Former Governor Of Kogi State and other accomplices in corruption issues in Kogi State be investigate so as to serve as deterrent to successive administration in Kogi.
“That the Government House does not confer immunity on former Governors as Nigerians are watching and waiting, that all local Government Chairmen be investigated as the former Governor Yahaya Bello cannot be alone in this cycle of corruption.
