Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara on Thursday distributed drugs and other medical consumables worth N1billion to hospitals across the state.
The drugs distribution was in line with the Governor’s policy of providing affordable healthcare services to all the citizens.
Speaking while presenting the drugs and other medical consumables the governor said, ”After declaring state of emergency in healthcare, my administration is committed to renovating and reconstructing healthcare facilities in the state.
“We have done that at Nasarawa Burkullu General Hospital in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, we did in Maradun, Maru, and Kaura Namoda Council areas.
“We are doing similar projects in General Hospitals Gusau and Talata Mafara, respectively.
“To ensure effective healthcare services to all people in the state, we must join the reconstruction of hospitals with the provision of essential drugs and other emergency response medical items.”
Lawal urged the personnel to imbibe maintenance culture and avoid diversion of the items allocated to any hospital.
He said they were given to them as a trust and should ensure that they reached the targeted beneficiaries,warning,”any person found in the habit of selling these items will be death with.”’
In her remarks, the State Commissioner for Health,
Dr Aisha Anka, commended the governor for the heavy investments in the health sector.
Anka said the drugs would complement the infrastructural development already put in place.
The drugs and medical consumables shared included; drugs, surgical kits, delivery kits, emergency response kits and laboratory reagents. (NAN)
