Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, has urged the state Assembly to enact a law that will enable government to remit a certain percentage of the accrued mining funds for the development of host communities
Sule made the call when the Speaker of the assembly, Mr Danladi Jatau, presented Mr Mohammed Isimbabi (Toto/Gadabuke), who recently defected from the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The speaker, who was in company of other APC lawmakers, presented Isimbabi to the governor on Tuesday in Lafia.
Sule said that a mining law would ensure proper development in communities where mining activties is currently ongoing.
”The state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a company to mine lithium in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
”I want to commend President Bola Tinubu for transforming the mining sector for the overall development Nasarawa state.
“I want to also appreciate the speaker for the quality leadership he is providing; his character and exemplary leadership made it possible for Isimbabi to defect to our party’,” Sule said.
The governor, who urged Jatau to continue to provide quality leadership in the assembly, said that the coming of Isimbabi would add value to APC in the state
On his part, the speaker told the governor that he was in Government House to officially present the decampee to him.
Jatau, who commended Sule for his developmental strides, said that the decampee was moved by the governor’s commitment to sustainable development in the state.
” You are doing well and we are proud of your leadership; we will continue to support your efforts toward the progress of our dear state,” Jatau said.
The speaker further called on residents of the state to support the governor’s bid in provding more dividends of democracy.
Earlier, Isimbabi thanked Gov. Sule and the speaker for their purposeful leadership in the state.
The lawmaker, who promised to be loyal to his new party, promised his constituents quality representation and dividends of democracy.(NAN)
