The Kaduna State Government is set to inaugurate the Pambegua campus of the State College of Nursing and Midwifery.
According to its Provost, Dr Yusuf Bello, this is a significant step toward enhancing health education in the state.
Bello told newsmen on Monday in Kaduna that the college consists of three campuses spread across the state,
He highlighted that the Panbegua campus had recently secured accreditation from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
This, Bello said, was made possible by the current administration’s commitment to completing critical infrastructure within the campus.
According to the provost, this milestone will allow the campus to admit students for the 2024/2025 academic session, offering National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) programs in Nursing.
Bello said that 120 students would be admitted to the campus, with each for the ND and HND programmes.
In addition, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has given approval to run General Nursing and Basic Midwifery programmes across all the three campuses.
“The classrooms, science laboratories, library, and other facilities are now fully completed,” he said
Bello stated that the staff were ready while the institution was awaiting the final approval from the state government to commence academic activities.
He said that the central administration for the three campuses was based in Kaduna.
Bello said, ” The graduates of the ND programme will have a direct pathway to the HND, culminating in their participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
”The graduates will be awarded three certifications: Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Midwife (RM), and Registered Public Health Nurse (RPHN).”
Bello expressed his gratitude to Gov. Uba Sani for his support in ensuring the completion and accreditation of the campuses and the proharmmes .
He emphasised that all the campuses were now fully accredited and prepared to deliver quality healthcare education.
The provost said that the community has also played a vital role in bringing the project to fruition.
Safiyanu Usman, District Head of Panbegua, thanked the state government and the people of the district for their contributions to the campus’s development.
He explained that the community assisted with infrastructure improvements, including partitioning and roofing.
It also provided off-campus housing for the students while awaiting the hostel renovations.
Usman called on other communities to emulate Panbegua’s proactive approach, saying that development requires the collective efforts of both government and the citizens.
Alhaji Haruna Ahmad, Chairman of the Committee for the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Pambegua, also acknowledged the community’s contributions.
These include renovations and the purchase of equipment to ensure the smooth operations of the institution.
He commended the government for realising the long-awaited campus project and ensuring that the rural communities benefit from the administration’s efforts.
Kaduna State Accountant General, Suleiman Zuntu, a former Chairman of the area, also lauded the government’s achievements and expressed hope for more successful projects in Pambegua.(NAN)
