An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan on Monday sentenced a 44-year-old unemployed man, Kunle Ojetunde, to spend three months at the correctional centre for stealing two live Turkeys.
The court sentenced Ojetunde with an option of N30,000 fine.
Ojetunde, was charged with a two-count of unlawfully breaking into a place and stealing.
He pleaded guilty to the charge, and pleaded for leniency.
While sentencing the defendant, the Magistrate, Mrs D.T Oladele,
found him guilty of the two counts and convicted him.
On the first count of breaking into a chicken pen, the magistrate sentenced Ojetunde to two months imprisonment or an option of N20,000 fine.
On the second count of stealing, Oladele sentenced the convict to one month imprisonment or an option of N10,000 fine.
The magistrate ordered that the sentence would run consecutively.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Femi Omilana, while reviewing the facts said that on Sept. 4, at Abaomo, Apata, Ibadan, the convict broke into a chicken pen in his neighbourhood and stole two live Turkeys.
According to the prosecutor, the owner Mr Sunday Paul, reported the case at Apata Police Station.
He said that the convict sold the Turkeys to a seller who displayed it at the market for sale.
“Paul’s wife went to Apata market and identified the Turkeys in a cage displayed for sale.
“The convict was arrested through the person that bought the Turkeys from him,” Omilana said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 412 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Oyo State, 2000. (NAN)
