Mr Aka Eze Aka, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) chairmanship candidate for Udenu in the forthcoming local government election in Enugu State, has pledged to end insecurity in the area.
Aka, the former Enugu Commissioner for Information and Communication, made this pledge during the unveiling of his manifesto for Udenu people in Enugu.
According to Aka, he will tackle insecurity in Udenu Local Government Area through youth oriented programmes and empowerment.
He said he would engage the youths in area in agriculture, sports, Information and Communication Technology, education and skill acquisition schemes as well as assisting them harnessing their potential.
Aka said that youths involved in crimes because they were not engaged, adding that he would tackle insecurity to enable farmers in the area to grow their crops.
“We will improve communication channels, organise local vigilance effort and strengthening infrastructure; we aim to create a safe environment for all residents.
“This coordinated approach is informed by the understanding that youth unemployment and poverty contribute to insecurity and by addressing the root causes, we can build more secured and prosperous Udenu.’’
He said his approach mirrored the state’s three-pronged strategy, focusing on integrated youth employment programmes, rural development initiatives and enhanced community policing.
On agriculture, the PDP candidate said he would create synergy with the state agriculture initiatives by ensuring that Udenu became a leading hub of agricultural productivity and industrial growth.
He said he would partner with local communities and the state to secure land for agriculture and industrial development.
According to him, lands will be designated for industrial and agricultural purposes.
He said the gesture would provide opportunities for both subsistence and large-scale farming to ensure food security in the council area and state in general.
“We will create jobs; support local businesses and ensure that Obollo Afor remains second-fast growing urban centre in Enugu after Nsukka.
“We will unlock the true potential of our local economy and increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the benefit of all,” he said. (NAN)
