The NASARA Foundation in Kebbi has commenced the free treatment of about 3,000 people with eye defects in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the free medical outreach, held at the Kebbi Teaching Hospital, Kalgo, was organised by the foundation of Hajiya Zainab Nasir-Idris, a wife of the Governor.
While inaugurating the programme, Nasir-Idris, informed the beneficiaries that the entire treatment had been provided free to improve the health and well-being of the people.
” Follow doctors’ instructions, the treatment is free, don’t give anything to anybody even if requested, we pray for God’s intervention,” she said.
The governor’s wife, represented by the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Maryam Tafida, commended the state government and state Ministry of Health for all their support to the foundation in the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yunusa Musa-Isma’il, expressed delight that health matters had continued to receive priority under the incumbent administration of Gov. Nasir Idris.
” The health sector is now vibrant and robust; the governor has been making necessary intervention to improve healthcare delivery since assumption of office.
” We are also grateful to his wife, Hajiya Zainab Nasir-Idris for complementing such intervention by providing health services to the people of Kebbi, like the ongoing free medical outreach for those in need of eye treatment,” he said.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad-BK, described the governor’s wife as a compassionate mother, providing care to people.
” We thank her for arranging this programme to enhance the eyesight of persons with eye problems.
” She has continued to demonstrate motherly love to her people,” he said.
On his part, the state Coordinator of the foundation, Alhaji Abdurrasheed Bala, commended her for the uncommon penchant and commitment to the provision of assistance to the less-privileged, improving their health and economic well-being.
” We are here again for medical outreach, from the initial stage, 500 people will get free eye treatment, 1,000 to receive optical services.
”They include free eye glasses, if there is progression, we shall cater for up to 3,000 persons with eye defects.
” In addition to free treatment, the foundation has provided free feeding to the beneficiaries and provision of transport fares to those discharged from the hospital to return to their various abodes,” he explained.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Abubakar Kaoje, affirmed its resolve to remain active stakeholders in attaining the target objective of the medical outreach.
” The hospital’s management commends her for organising the programme through her foundation, the NASARA Foundation to remedy the eyesight of people with eye problems.
” The hospital is advising the patients to beware of some misguided elements who may pretend to be officials to demand payment for services, don’t allow them to exploit you, the entire treatment is free.
“I am also making it incumbent on you to follow all the instructions of prescription, this is for your health,” the CMD said. (NAN).
