The Police in Ile-Ife on Monday arraigned a 41-year-old man, Sanni Moses, for alleged theft of Coca beans valued at N800,000.
Moses, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of trespass and stealing before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 5, at 8.00 a.m., at Obafemi Awolowo University Campus Farm, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant unlawfully and forcibly entered into the Cocoa farm of one Mr Sunday Nwankwo and stole some Cocoa beans valued at N800,000.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 81, 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant who was not legally represented, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Abosede Sarumi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Sarumi ordered that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He also ordered that the sureties should be property owners with evidence of three years tax payment.
Sarumi adjourned the case until Oct. 9 for hearing. (NAN)
