Dr Suwaiba Salihu-Kangiwa, the newly appointed Permanent Secretary, Kebbi Ministry of Women Affairs, has urged women to acquire skills to become self-reliant and support their husbands.
She said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.
According to Salihu-Kangiwa, women are pillars upon which famiies are built, and stressed the need for husbands to support their wives to learn skills for the betterment of their homes and the society.
Salihu-Kangiwa lauded the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, which recently disbursed N50,000 each to 1,000 women to boost their businesses in the state.
“I was opportune to be at the programme, these beneficiaries had been trained on different skills and each one of them was given N50,000 as starter pack to be able to sustain themselves.
“When a woman is self-sufficient not only her immediate family but the entire society wiĺl benefit in different ramifications,” she said.
Salihu-Kangiwa, who is a former school principal also commended Gov. Nasir Idris for ensuring gender inclusivity to promote good governance in the state.
She pledged support to Kebbi government’s women development programmes to fast track sustainable social and economic development of the state. (NAN)
