Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday arrested former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, over alleged ₦189 billion fraud.
A source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Tambuwal, who governed Sokoto from 2015 to 2023 and is now a serving senator, was taken into custody at the EFCC’s Abuja headquarters.
He is being questioned over alleged fraudulent cash withdrawals said to be in violation of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The source said Tambuwal arrived at the EFCC’s premises around 11:30 a.m. and was undergoing interrogation as of press time.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, declined to comment on the matter.
