Four persons have been hospitalized after a collision and explosion involving two tankers in the Dan Magaji area along the Zaria–Kaduna Expressway on Monday morning.
Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred in the early hours and involved a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) tanker and an empty tanker. The collision triggered a fire outbreak, leaving the victims with varying degrees of burns.
Confirming the incident, Nasir Abdullahi Falgore, Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zaria Unit Command, said the LNG-laden tanker rammed into the rear of the empty tanker after the latter reportedly suffered a tire puncture.
The Area Commander of the Federal Fire Service in Zaria, Aminu Ahmadu Kiyawa, said his team responded promptly after receiving a distress call.
“Three persons sustained burns from the gas-laden tanker, while one victim was evacuated from the second tanker. All four were rushed to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Shika, for treatment,” Kiyawa stated.
Both officials dismissed earlier rumours that smaller vehicles were involved, clarifying that only the two tankers were affected and that no deaths were recorded.
Passersby who witnessed the incident also confirmed that no other vehicles were involved.
