The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured stakeholders of its readiness to conduct a peaceful, transparent, and credible bye-election in the Ganye Constituency of Adamawa State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Alhaji Mohammed Nura, gave the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Wednesday in Yola.

Nura said the bye-election, scheduled for August 16, became necessary following the death of the former member representing the constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the election, INEC will deploy the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), supported by adequate security personnel and trained technical staff.

“The constituency consists of 10 Registration Areas (Wards), 198 Polling Units, and 100,675 registered voters, out of which 88,963 have collected their **Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs),” Nura stated.

He added that 198 BVAS machines would be deployed—one per polling unit—with additional backup devices and trained Registration Area Technicians (RATECHs) on standby. A total of 1,425 personnel will be engaged, including 792 polling officials and 514 security personnel.

Nura said INEC had met with the Adamawa Police Command, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to establish a robust security plan.

He disclosed that training for Supervisory Presiding Officers was conducted on August 1–2, while training for other ad-hoc staff is scheduled for August 8–10.

All participating political parties, according to Nura, conducted their primaries peacefully between July 17 and 21. He also confirmed that non-sensitive election materials have been received, with logistics for deployment already in place.

The REC appealed to political parties, security agencies, and the public to cooperate with INEC for a successful electoral exercise.

Nura also announced that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will resume nationwide. Online pre-registration is set to begin on August 18, while physical registration will commence on August 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, at INEC offices and designated centres across the country.
