The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved an upward review of funding for its free basic healthcare scheme, J-Basic, aimed at providing accessible medical services to vulnerable and underserved residents across the state.
Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday following the council’s meeting in Dutse.
According to him, the monthly capitation for beneficiaries under both the Formal Sector (with 217,134 enrollees) and the J-Basic Healthcare Programme (143,500 enrollees) has been increased from ₦300 to ₦500 per person.
“Following the successful implementation of J-Basic Healthcare Services for vulnerable citizens, this funding boost will strengthen the administration’s efforts,” Musa stated.
He explained that the J-Basic initiative was designed to provide free and equitable healthcare access for the state’s poorest residents, in line with global best practices in health insurance.
Musa also noted that the programme has been rated the best of its kind in Nigeria, reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustaining and enhancing its impact on public health.
