The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has confirmed the abduction of seven farmers in Itaogbolu, located in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The State Commander of Amotekun, Mr. Adetunji Adeleye, disclosed the incident to The Cabal in a telephone interview on Monday.
According to Adeleye, the farmers were kidnapped on Saturday while working on their farmland. He said the Corps has since deployed personnel to the surrounding forests in search of the victims.
“I can confirm the incident. Our men have been in the forests and are still there.
I was there yesterday (Sunday), and we are hopeful that they will soon be rescued,” Adeleye stated.
Police Confirm Abduction, Launch Operation
Also confirming the incident, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, said the command has launched an operation to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims’ release.
“Yes, there is a case of kidnapping at the weekend in Itaogbolu.
The police have launched an operation to ensure those responsible are apprehended.
I cannot confirm the exact number of victims because the rescue operation is ongoing,” Ayanlade told The Cabal.
Kidnappers Demand N100 Million Ransom
A community source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the abducted farmers had gone to harvest palm fruits when they were seized by the gunmen.
“They went to the farm to harvest palm fruits on Saturday and didn’t return.
We didn’t hear anything until Sunday evening, when the kidnappers contacted one of the family members, demanding N100 million for their release,” the source said.
Negotiations with the abductors are reportedly ongoing, as families continue to appeal for help and the safe return of their loved ones.
Security agencies have assured the public that efforts are in top gear to rescue the abducted farmers and bring the perpetrators to justice.
