Former President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the Super Falcons following their dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco to clinch a record-extending 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Jonathan lauded the team’s resilience and fighting spirit, describing their triumph as a beacon of hope and a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s potential.
“Congratulations @NGSuper_Falcons on winning the #TotalEnergiesWAFCON2024 for a record 10th time (#MissionX),” he wrote. “Your hard work and team spirit saw you fight back from two goals down to defeat the host Moroccan team by a margin of 3-2.”
The former president emphasized that the Super Falcons’ success was more than a sporting achievement. He said it offered a powerful lesson for the nation—demonstrating what Nigerians can accomplish when united in purpose and determination.
“Your victory is a lesson of hope. One that highlights our possibilities as a nation; that with unity, faith and perseverance, we can achieve our national aspirations no matter how daunting the challenges we face,” Jonathan stated.
He further praised the team for accomplishing what he referred to as #MissionX—becoming the first country to win the WAFCON title ten times on the African continent.
“Thank you for making us proud. Congratulations on your achievement of #MissionX, the first in our continent’s history,” he concluded.
