Nigeria’s entertainment and sports landscape is alive with excitement following three major developments: the Super Falcons’ stunning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) comeback, the much-anticipated launch of Big Brother Naija Season 10, and the meteoric rise of Kemi Adetiba’s new series, To Kill a Monkey.
According to the Cabal, these events have sparked a wave of national pride and captured widespread public attention.
On Saturday night in Rabat, Morocco, the Super Falcons pulled off a dramatic comeback to reclaim their continental crown, defeating hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling WAFCON final.
Down 2-0 at halftime in front of a roaring Moroccan crowd, Nigeria’s women stormed back with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late winner by Joe Echegini to clinch their record-extending 10th WAFCON title. The victory reasserts Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football, two years after the title slipped to South Africa.
While the Falcons dazzled on the field, Big Brother Naija returned to the screen with a bold reinvention for its 10th anniversary season, aptly themed “10/10.”
Premiering on the same night, host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu welcomed the first wave of housemates. However, it was the radical shift in game format that stole the spotlight. Instead of awarding the ₦150 million grand prize to a single winner, this season introduces a “work-and-reward” system, where housemates must earn money weekly through tasks and challenges.
The new model promises heightened suspense, strategic gameplay, and shifting alliances as the show unfolds until its finale on October 5.
On the streaming front, award-winning filmmaker Kemi Adetiba has struck gold once again with her gripping crime thriller To Kill a Monkey, which shot to the No. 1 spot on Netflix Nigeria just days after its July 18 premiere.
The series follows Efe, a struggling young man whose life descends into chaos after a fateful reunion with a ghost from his past. With a stellar cast that includes William Benson, Bucci Franklin, Bimbo Akintola, Stella Damasus, and Chidi Mokeme, the show dives deep into themes of betrayal, greed, power, vengeance, and justice.
Praised for its sharp storytelling and cinematic visuals, To Kill a Monkey has received critical acclaim and enthusiastic praise from fans across the country.
