The United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, has commended  Gov. Abba  Yusuf of Kano State , for his remarkable strides in advancing social development and promoting  Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa in Kano on Sunday.

Mrs. Amina Mohammed paid a condolence visit to the  government and people, following the recent passing of two prominent elder statesmen, Alhaji Aminu  Dantata and former President Muhammadu Buhari.
She commended  the governor’s  initiatives on  installation  solar lights on  Kano’s streets, the establishment of the Kano centre for Disease Control, and  expansion of  health coverage for the informal sector through the state insurance scheme.
She praised the creation of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, reflecting the government’s commitment to climate action and sustainability.
The UN Deputy Secretary-General noted that her visit aimed to deepen advocacy on the SDGs and strengthen collaboration with the State.
Mohammed  expressed appreciation for Yusuf’s dedication to women’s empowerment, job creation, and environmental sustainability.
She said “Kano is like a country, and it should be treated as such in terms of development support.”
Responding,  Yusuf expressed the  readiness of the state for strategic partnerships with UN agencies in Nigeria, particularly in education, healthcare, climate change, renewable energy, environmental protection, and sustainable investment.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing development policies that improve the quality of life for the people of Kano and contribute to global development efforts.( NAN)
