The Federal Government has debunked a false statement circulating online, which claimed that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) conducted by WAEC and the National Examinations Council (NECO) had been cancelled due to widespread examination malpractice.
In a statement released by the Ministry on Sunday, signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, it described the report as misleading and entirely fabricated to incite panic and confusion among students, parents, and the general public.
The Ministry confirmed that the 2025 WAEC examinations were successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice, all of which were promptly addressed by the appropriate authorities.
It further stated that the ongoing NECO examinations are proceeding smoothly and, as of the time of the statement, no incidents of malpractice have been reported.
The Ministry emphasised that it has not received any official communication or report from WAEC, NECO, or any other examination body regarding widespread irregularities in the conduct of either examination.
It therefore urged members of the public to disregard the fake press release in circulation and to seek information only from credible and verified sources, including official websites and communication channels of the Ministry, WAEC, and NECO.
“The attention of the Federal Ministry of Education has been drawn to a false and misleading statement circulating online, alleging the cancellation of the 2025 WAEC Examinations due to widespread examination malpractice.
“The Ministry wishes to categorically disassociate itself from this fake news and clarify the following: The 2025 WAEC Examinations have been successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice reported, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities.
“The ongoing NECO Examinations are progressing smoothly, and as of this release, no cases of examination malpractice have been reported. The Federal Ministry of Education has not received any official communication or report from WAEC, NECO, or any examination body regarding widespread malpractice in either of the examinations.”
The Ministry remains fully committed to upholding the integrity, credibility, and orderly conduct of all public examinations and will continue working closely with examination bodies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
Reaffirming its commitment to upholding the integrity and credibility of all public examinations in Nigeria, the Ministry stated that it will continue working closely with relevant examination bodies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
