Population Service International (PSI-Nigeria), through its Menstrual Health and Management Project, on Thursday inaugurated a two-day capacity strengthening workshop aimed at developing media content to dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.

Speaking at the training, Ms. Gloria Obed, Project Officer at PSI-Nigeria, said the initiative was designed to equip media influencers with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to effectively promote Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHHM).

According to her, the training will enable participants to better support and educate adolescent girls and young women.

“Participants will gain insights into safe and recommended menstrual products and are expected to create media content that promotes menstrual hygiene awareness,” Obed said.

She also highlighted the importance of understanding the different colours of menstrual blood, which could help distinguish between normal and abnormal health conditions.

Monitoring such changes, she explained, was vital for early identification of potential health concerns.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs Zuwaira Baba, Gender Officer at the Bauchi State Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, emphasised the critical role of the media in health promotion and behaviour change communication.

“This engagement is designed to empower media practitioners to develop content that addresses stigma, challenges, and misinformation surrounding menstruation,” she said.

Baba also stressed the importance of male involvement in menstrual health conversations, noting that it was essential for building supportive and inclusive environments for women and girls.

She urged journalists and social media influencers to use their platforms to normalise discussions about menstruation, challenge taboos, and promote dignity for all.
