An interest group, Patriotic Movement for Asiwaju 2027, has said that that the current coalition arrangement by some opposition figures in the country to oust President Bola Tinubu in 2027 is built on weak structures and, therefore, bound to fail.
The group said this in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the statement was jointly signed by the association’s acting National Coordinator, Alhaji Abubakar Sokoto; Deputy National Coordinator, Elder Gbolagade Oladiji and National Secretary, Victor Uchechuku.
The group called on Tinubu’s supporters not to lose sleep over the newly-formed national coalition, describing it as ‘dead before arrival’.
“Surely, this discredited citizens’ coalition is already a failure, a coalition whose interim leaders do not control the governments of their respective states,” it stated.
It described the leaders of the coalition as “discredited” and “rejected self-acclaimed leaders” with little or no political influence in their respective states.
“The coalition is nothing but an Amalgamation of Discredited Citizens (ADC).
“We wonder how someone can lay claim to the leadership of a state where he has neither a governor nor members of the national or state assembly on his side, yet continues to daydream that his people are with him.
“Tell us who among the leaders of the coalition truly holds political leadership in their states,” it said.
The group noted that while some of the coalition leaders could not win their own states, others were betrayers of their political mentors.
It wondered what influence some of the opposition leaders would wield within the coalition, citing Sule Lamido whose state is entirely being controlled by APC as well as Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, Aminu Tambuwal, Nasir El-Rufai, Hadi Sirika and Abubakar Malami.
The group called on Nigerians to critically assess the characters of the coalition’s leaders and their contributions to the development of Nigeria.
It said that Sirika, for instance, owed Nigerians some explanations regarding his role in the failed Air Nigeria project, adding that Malami too should clarify his involvement in the controversial currency change policy.
“It is good that the characters of leaders behind the coalition are beginning to emerge at this early time.
“This will expose to right-thinking Nigerians who these people are. Did they contribute to Nigeria’s progress in the past, for them to seek support now?” it queried.
Meanwhile, the group has formally announced the official change of its name from the Patriotic Movement for Asiwaju 2023 (PMA) to the Patriotic Movement for President Tinubu Second Term 2027.
It recalled how the Patriotic Movement for Asiwaju 2023 was founded by Hajia Rabia Cengiz (RAKAD), who was the former National Chairperson and Presidential Candidate of National Action Council (NAC) during the 2019 general elections.
The group noted that if Cengia, who died a couple of months ago, were to be alive, she would have worked tirelessly for Tinubu’s second term in office.
It, however, said that the national deputy coordinator (North) would take charge of its leadership, pending the convocation of NEC meeting, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
