Alhaji Adamu Waziri, a founding figure and Board of Trustees member of Nigeria’s opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has left the party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing national interest and a need to re-energise democratic institutions.
Waziri formally announced his resignation on Monday at the Dogo Tebo Ward Centre in Yobe State’s Potiskum Local Government Area, in accordance with PDP rules that require membership withdrawals to be ratified at ward level.
“This was not an easy decision, but it has become necessary,” Waziri explained. “The PDP no longer aligns with the vision of a credible opposition that Nigeria desperately needs. I am stepping aside to help rebuild our democracy.”
He appealed to his political associates, whom he described as “my boys,” to join him in the new movement to deliver genuine governance to the Nigerian people.
Malam Muhammad Bomai, representing the PDP Ward Chairman, accepted Waziri’s departure “with a heavy heart,” acknowledging his longstanding contribution to the party’s national profile.
In a surprising development, Bomai also resigned from the PDP during the meeting and immediately declared his own defection to the ADC, pledging to support Waziri’s push for a more accountable and people-centred political alternative.
