Nigeria’s Presidency has dismissed reports suggesting that Senator George Akume has been removed from his role as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In a statement released by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the reports were described as “fabricated and misleading”.
“The information circulating about Akume’s replacement is untrue,” Onanuga clarified. “Agents of mischief fabricated it. There has been no change in the status of His Excellency, Sen. George Akume, as SGF.”
He also noted that President Bola Tinubu, who is currently on an official visit to Saint Lucia, has not made any new appointment.
Onanuga urged Nigerians to disregard the rumours, which had claimed Akume had resigned as SGF to take up the position of National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement underlines the Presidency’s commitment to countering false narratives and maintaining transparency about official appointments.
