President Bola Tinubu has praised the ongoing infrastructural development in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja, stating that it reflects his administration’s commitment to revitalising the economy and enhancing social wellbeing.
Tinubu’s message was delivered on Wednesday during the inauguration of a new road interchange linking Wole Soyinka Way (Arterial Road N20) to the Murtala Mohammed Expressway — one of 17 projects lined up to mark his administration’s second year in office. This project marks the 11th to be officially commissioned in the series.
Speaking through Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who represented him at the event, Tinubu lauded the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a visible transformation of the city.
“Even the blind can see the change,” the President declared, highlighting the interchange as a critical part of his Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on building solid infrastructure to drive economic and social development.
The President added that efficient infrastructure such as the new interchange will unlock commercial potential, reduce traffic congestion, and improve daily life for commuters.
“The interchange is more than just a marvel of engineering; it’s a symbol of our commitment to building a connected and prosperous capital,” Tinubu said.
He also addressed the challenges of rapid urbanisation, noting that such projects help mitigate the strain on city logistics and transport systems.
FCT Minister Wike, in his remarks, revealed that while the project was initially awarded in 2020, it had reached completion under Tinubu’s leadership, reflecting his policy of reviving and finishing abandoned initiatives.
“This is about leadership and commitment. When the right leadership is in place, results follow — and the President has clearly shown that,” Wike said, while also thanking the National Assembly for its support.
Dr Mariya Mahmoud, Minister of State for the FCT, also commended the administration’s efforts, describing the interchange as a testament to Tinubu’s resolve to modernise transportation infrastructure in the capital.
