Authorities in Nigeria’s Nasarawa State have announced traffic restrictions and diversions in the capital, Lafia, ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s official visit scheduled for this week.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Rahman Nansel, said the measures would be implemented to ensure the safety and smooth coordination of the visit. The traffic diversions and movement restrictions will be in effect from 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 24 June, to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 25 June.
As part of the arrangements, vehicles approaching Lafia from the Akwanga axis will be rerouted at Mechanic Village, Azuba, towards the bypass via Akurba and Mararaba Akunza, before reconnecting to Makurdi Road. Similarly, traffic from the Makurdi direction will be diverted at Bukan Kwato–Mararaba Akunza, with motorists advised to link through Akurba and Azuba.
Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, assured the public that comprehensive security deployments are in place along the alternative routes to guarantee the safety of commuters.
“These measures are not meant to cause hardship,” said Nansel. “They are necessary to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the President’s visit.”
The police have appealed for public cooperation, acknowledging the temporary inconvenience the measures may cause, and have expressed gratitude for the continued support of residents and motorists.
